From a district email...
Dear Hickory Woods Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
Safety is always a priority for our students. This morning at a bus stop in The Springs Apartments, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a student was approached by a male in a grey SUV described as having darkened windows. The individual asked the child to come to his vehicle.
Fortunately, the student did not losten and immediately reported the incident to the bus driver. Police were contacted by the transportation department.
This letter is a reminder of the importance of safety. As a precautionary measure, I'm kindly requesting that you please review these "safety tips" with your child.
Safety Tips:
1) Be aware of your surroundings, including strangers or people in parked cars.
2) Avoid any people you do not know.
3) Do not respond to or accept offers or requests made by strangers (i.e., help me find my pet, etc.)
4) Immediately report to your school, families and police any approach made to you by a stranger.
Thank you for working with us to keep our children safe.
Sincerely,
Dr. Patricia Werner,
Principal
