The stop is at the south intersection of Alcott Circle & Emerson Way. We will not be stopping at the north intersection of Alcott Circle & Emerson Way. Placing additional bus stops on routes increases the amount of fuel the bus uses. Consolidating stops and limiting the number of times a bus accelerates/decelerates helps us to curb fuel costs for the district.
The location of the current stop is consistent with elementary bus stop placement throughout the district and does meet all legal requirements for placement and visibility. Having children within sight of their homes, taking care of younger children at home, inclement weather or morning darkness are not criteria for bus stop placement, as this scenario exists all around the district, especially for non-transported students. Hundreds of elementary students walk up to 1.0 mile to and from school/bus stops daily, including many at Hickory Woods Elementary.
